Asking questions is the single most important part of the learning process. It is also the first step in the AIS learning method. We will help students understand how to ask effective questions that offer best possible informed answers.

For example, in his inauguration speech, President Barak Obama mentions "Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms." Usually, this speech would be printed in a literature textbook and these lines accompanied by a question similar to "what is the meaning of rising tides of prosperity and what is the meaning of gathering clouds and raging storms?"

Using the AIS learning method, the educator will guide students to ask the question "which presidents have spoken the oath during rising tides of prosperity and which presidents have spoken the oath during gathering clouds and raging storms?" This question challenges students to investigate historic political and economical events in the US and ties together subjects like History, Economy, and Sociology.
